The programs allow students to engage in more 'doing' and less 'talking'. Groups are facilitated by at least one qualified and experienced mental health professional and animal assisted therapist, and a qualified and experienced certified dog handler. Qualified Mental Health Practitioners and certified teams bring their Therapy Dogs to your school and deliver the programs to small groups of students.
Availability is mainly to schools in Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, with limited capacity to travel to rural schools.
There is an increasing body of evidence in the use of animals in educational settings to benefit student psychological and emotional outcomes.
