Breath Circle is an evidence-based, trauma-informed mindfulness and movement education program designed to empower young people with lifelong tools for emotional regulation, self-compassion, and resilience.
We achieve this by:
• Teaching somatic practices in a safe, trauma-informed environment that helps calm the nervous-system and regulate emotions.
• Fostering self-awareness and autonomy, encouraging young people to turn inward for support, breathe deeply, and move freely through life’s challenges.
• Building confidence and self-esteem by reinforcing the belief that young people have the inner resources to navigate adversity.
To ensure the sustainability of these practices, we adopt a whole-community approach to wellbeing:
• We provide training and capacity-building opportunities for caregivers and educators, equipping them with the same breath and movement tools.
• This shared foundation strengthens intergenerational support systems and embeds mindful practices into the fabric of the community.
Through our sessions, young people and their caregivers gain:
• A foundational understanding of the science of stress and regulation, including accessible introductions to polyvagal theory. This framework explains how our nervous-system responds to safety and threat, influencing emotional and social behaviours.
• Tools to recognize and manage emotional and physical signs of stress and anxiety, empowering participants to identify early warning signs and implement strategies to mitigate them.
• Strategies to shift from a dysregulated state to a calm, grounded one using somatic, breath-based practices, such as deep breathing and box breathing. These techniques activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety.
• Increased emotional awareness, improved communication, and stronger bonds with family and community, fostering a supportive environment for emotional growth and resilience.
• A framework for building balanced, creative, and connected lifestyle, encouraging holistic well-being through mindful-practices and positive coping mechanisms.
