Aims & approach

Discover You™ is designed for young people in Years 4-12 and considers:

  • Core skills: Courage, confidence, and connection.
  • Social and emotional learning: Development of growth mindsets, self-management, social awareness, conflict resolution, and character strengths.
  • Mental wellbeing: Tools for suicide prevention and support for mental health.
  • Evidence-based frameworks: Utilises globally renowned frameworks like Character Strengths, PERMAH, and Developmental Assets.
  • Personal growth: Activities to reframe negative thoughts, build trust, set goals, and practice grit.
  • Longitudinal impact: Measures the impact on relationships, social and emotional learning, and psychological wellbeing.

The student workshops can be easily integrated into existing wellbeing strategy and initiatives.

There is an 18-week program and a 6-week program. Funding may be available for some schools in South Australia.

Evidence

The programs draws on the original US-based program and globally renowned, evidence-based wellbeing frameworks including Character Strengths, PERMAH Wellbeing and CASEL Frameworks, and the Developmental Assets already used in many schools.
