Kids Helpline @ School is an Australian National Curriculum aligned, social and emotional program facilitated by qualified Kids Helpline Counsellors.
The program offers FREE psychoeducational sessions for primary school and high school students nationally via video conferencing.
The aim of the program is to improve students' mental health literacy, coping and resilience skills and promote help-seeking behaviours. It also aims to increase awareness of Kids Helpline services, and to build on students' ability to tackle challenges impacting their mental health and wellbeing.
There are 27 topics teachers can choose from, and every topic can be tailored to meet the needs of the classroom, interactive and delivered by our professional Kids Helpline counsellors.
Kids Helpline @ School is underpinned by a Program Theory that is informed through therapeutic models, theories, and interventions. Program actvities include the development of program content and materials comprising high-quality psycho-educational resources, session co-design and planning in collaboration with teachers, in-class session delivery, and the provision of pre-and post- session information and support for school staff. External and internal reports inform changes and improvements to our service provision, including our annual client survey, and external studies such as those listed in the Kids Helpline @ School Theory of Change.
Program facilitators are all tertiary qualified professional counsellors - giving students the opportunity to learn the best evidence-informed strategies directly from a Kids Helpline Counsellor.
All sessions are backed by research rationales drawing on the latest research teaching a vast range of theories and evidence-based approaches/strategies to equip students with a range of skills to improve their mental health literacy and wellbeing.
The impact of the program is supported by positive outcomes continually reported by students and teachers following engagement with Kids Helpline @ School. The specific impacts for the past year are detailed in the latest report available at https://schools.kidshelpline.com.au/.
