Aims & approach

Party Wise is aimed at young people who are at or approaching the age where they or their peers may be experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

The program aims to reduce the harm and impact of alcohol and other drug use in young people by empowering students to make informed decisions about the risks, and how to mitigate these risks.

The program begins with a 50-minute facilitator-led presentation to a group of young people, which can be class-sized or multiple classes together. During the interactive presentation, students are provided with evidence-informed information to empower them to make safe, positive decisions regarding drug and alcohol use.

Following the presentation, students break into workshop groups led by education facilitators to explore different real-life scenarios. Students engage in group discussions about how to keep themselves and friends safe from harm, covering topics such as myth-busting, stigma and empathy, support networks, and strategies to navigate real life scenarios. The workshop runs for 40 minutes.

Practical requirements include audio-visual equipment (screen/projector, speakers, microphone) and rooms for break-out workshops.
