Aims & approach

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships learning materials have been designed for teachers in primary and secondary schools to develop students' social, emotional and positive relationship skills. The learning materials cover eight topics:

  • emotional literacy
  • personal and cultural strengths
  • positive coping
  • problem-solving
  • stress management
  • help-seeking
  • gender norms and stereotypes
  • positive gender relations

The Victorian Department of Education implements Respectful Relationships across Victorian schools and early childhood services through freely available online resources, as well as delivery support in the forms of a lead and partner schools initiative, a professional development program for early childhood educators, and a regional Respectful Relationships workforce.

Implementation support

  • Implementation training webinars or modules
  • Ongoing helpdesk, email or phone support

Evidence

Efforts to promote social and emotional skills and positive gender norms in children and young people has been shown to improve health related outcomes and subjective wellbeing. It also reduces antisocial behaviours including engagement in gender-related violence.

The positive impact of the program is supported by evaluation summaries, progress summaries, and case study videos available at https://www.vic.gov.au/respectful-relationships.
