Aims & approach

For Tasmanian schools. The SmartFood program utilises a simple 'traffic light' system of GREEN, AMBER and RED foods. The program recognises a school's dedication to the health and wellbeing of its school community through four levels of accreditation required for a school to be SmartFood accredited:

  1. Development of a School Food Policy and a School Food Service Procedures document.
  2. Proof of an Australian Food Safety Assessment Form from local council.
  3. Meet a standard of food and drinks as set out by the SmartFood guide requirements.
  4. Link the canteen with a whole school approach to healthy eating through school activities promoting healthy eating.
