The Stay ChatTY Schools Program aims to deliver mental health education and reduce stigma associated with mental illness by delivering interactive, informative sessions to students, staff and parents across Tasmania. The program includes:
GritFit Kids: a 1-hour interactive session centred around mental wellbeing and resilience for Grade 6 students. Delivered by Stay ChatTY facilitators, this evidence informed, clinically endorsed program provides students with foundational information, tools and strategies across the following topics: mental health, how our brains work, and the importance of kindness.
GritFit: a 1.5-hour interactive workshop for up to 30 x Grade 9-12 students, delivered by Stay ChatTY facilitators to cover the following topics: mental health myths and facts, tools for grit and resilience, and the importance of kindness.
GritFit+: a free 1-hour professional learning session for all staff aimed at acknowledging the complexities of student wellbeing and the possible impacts on the caregiver.
The program also includes take-home merchandise, resources and tools promoting kindness and support options.
The program is free to eligible Tasmanian public schools, funded by the Tasmanian Government Department for Education, Children and Young People. For Catholic and Independent schools around Tasmania, there is a fee-for-service structure.
Programs are developed using Positive Psychology methods and trauma-informed practices, and accredited by Suicide Prevention Australia.
