Aims & approach

This is a positive, FREE program for young people in Tasmania. It gives young people the knowledge, skills and resources to engage their friends, family and community in understanding what positive mental health and wellbeing looks like and how to maintain it.

The Youth Peer Wellbeing Program has been developed as part of The Mental Health Council of Tasmania's (MHCT) Youth Mental Health Access Project, using the Take a minute campaign to provide peer-to-peer education on mental health and wellbeing awareness within the community.

Delivered through schools, Peer Leaders receive training to support their leadership journey. Training focuses on self care, boundaries and communication, enabling Peer Leaders to confidently engage in peer-to-peer wellbeing conversations.

Contact the project officer from the Southern Tasmania region or the North/North West Tasmania region to get involved.

Evidence

The Youth Peer Wellbeing Program is built from a Positive Psychology Framework using a Peer-to-Peer Model that is evidenced based and continually evaluated and informed by the researchers at Be Well Co (affiliated with the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute; SAHMRI).
