Aims & approach

The TIC program aims to build the capacity of schools to strengthen understanding and processes around trauma-informed care and practice by working through a toolkit and plan. The program targets professionals who work directly with young people, including wellbeing teams, allied health professionals, school leadership and teaching staff.

The workshop includes the following topics:

  • introduction to trauma and young people
  • understanding the principles of trauma informed care in youth settings
  • universal screening processes for trauma (if applicable)
  • vicarious trauma and self-care for the workforce
  • developing a whole service/organisation approach to implementing trauma informed principles

Participants are engaged through a combination of didactic and interactive activities, designed to uplift their knowledge and provide opportunities to consider how best to apply this in their setting. The workshop culminates in the development of a school action plan, which is followed up through implementation support.

Training spans one day and can be delivered via online or face-to-face workshops. 2-3 virtual follow-up consultation sessions are included as part of the training (totalling up to 3 hours).
